Steps to Complete the Survey:

  1. Start a New Survey:

    • Click the "New Copyright" button to begin a new survey.
  2. Select a Plan:

    • If you need additional copyrights, please choose from one of our Song Safety plans detailed below. Each plan corresponds to a different number of copyrights so you can choose the option that best fits your needs.

  3. Answer All Questions:

    • Complete all questions in the Song Safety Survey to ensure your musical copyright is filed correctly.
      • Example Question: 
    • Questions with a "skip" button can be skipped if desired.

  4. Completion and Payment:

    • Once you answer all the questions, you will be redirected to the dashboard and then to the payment page.
    • Important: You must pay a government filing fee to file your copyright (To learn more about government fees, click here). You will be directed to Stripe to complete the payment. Charges will be based on the number of copyrights you decide to file with us. (Refer to the filing fees documentation for more details.)
  5. Payment Confirmation:

    • After payment, you will receive a payment confirmation and a congratulatory prompt on the dashboard.
    • The copyright will appear as "In Progress" in your dashboard.
  6. Processing Your Copyright:

    • A Song Safety representative will work quickly to file your copyright. Filings occur during working hours, Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. 
      • Support Ticket: For questions regarding your song safety filing, please get in touch with us via support at (Link to Song Safety Support (Submit Ticket)). Click on 
      • Support Chat: Log in to the Song Safety platform to start a chat, click the chat icon button on the lower right-hand side of the screen:
  7. Needs Attention:

    • If more information is needed, the status of your copyright will change to "Needs Attention." 
    • For more information on handling the "Need Attention" copyright status, click here
  8. Processing Time:

    • Please note that Song Safety cannot control the time it takes to file a copyright. Filing typically takes about 90 days.

  9. Public Notification:

    • Once your copyright is made public, you can search for it on the copyright.gov site, and we will send you a notification email that your copyright has been filed.
  10. Physical Copyright Receipt:

    • If you select yourself as the recipient of the physical copyright, you will receive notice in the mail, likely before Song Safety is alerted of the copyright issuance.

  11. Completion:

    • The process is complete once the hard copy and digital records are received.
